Overall Responsibility:

The Environmental Services Division Manager (ESDM) works to establish & execute SEI’s Environmental Services Division’s critical initiatives, market direction, profitability goals, efficient workflow, high employee morale, and excellent client satisfaction.  The ESDM requires experience as a Senior Environmental Scientist/NEPA Planner to include managing a growing and diverse environmental services staff with expertise in the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), Stakeholder Engagement, Air, Noise, Ecology, and Cultural Resources. Is also responsible for developing new Environmental business and growing existing Environmental business in both the public and private sectors. 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Prepare, manage, and review the various NEPA documents and Environmental Worksheets/Assessments for public and private clients and grow the SEI Environmental Division.
  2. Manage SEI Environmental Projects/Contracts for Scopes, Schedules, and Budgets for both Prime and SEI Subconsultant roles also including managing Subconsultants to SEI for Environmental Specialty areas that SEI does not currently have and will need to subcontract out.
  3. Work directly with the Transportation Project Controls Manager to ensure contract compliance for all Environmental projects and reviews/manages time coded to environmental projects and tasks within projects.
  4. Understand the basic requirements of all Environmental Specialty areas including but not limited to the NEPA, Cultural Resources, Ecology, Noise, Air and Stakeholder Involvement.
  5. Maintain existing relationships with Federal, State (GDOT Office of Environmental Services (OES)) and Local Regulatory Agencies and explore opportunities to create and build new relationships.
  6. Lead all SEI’s Environmental Business Development opportunities for both Prime and Sub Consultant pursuits.
  7. Monitoring RFQs and RFPs for prime and teaming opportunities, prepare responses as a Sub Consultant or Prime role for RFQs and RFPs, prepare the necessary proposals and work closely with SEI’s Proposal Coordinator on responses as necessary.
  8. Assist SEI Staff as needed in performing due diligence for Environmental areas prior to deciding on what projects to pursue as a Prime or as a Sub Consultant.
  9. Engage in debriefings with clients to gain information that will provide useful information for future successful wins as a Prime or Sub Consultant.
  10. Responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and managing SEI’s Environmental Services Staff to ensure commitments are maintained on any current or future environmental contracts.
  11. Effectively manage and train existing or rising environmental services staff to peak performance.
  12. Oversee efficient workflow and production rates for all environmental staff by measuring environmental staff performance.
  13. Ensure written procedures and protocols are established, well documented, and effectively implemented through regular training and reinforcement through performance evaluations (PE’s).
  14. Ensure a written Quality Assurance /Quality Control (QA/QC) program is established, well documented, and implemented through regular training and reinforced through PE’s.
  15. Speak effectively before groups including clients, customers, employees, and vendors.
  16. Identify and develop innovative solutions to critical division initiatives. (Workflow, quality, profitability, market direction, etc.)
  17. Demonstrate desire and behavior that project harmony with clients, peers, vendors, and SEI management.

Experience, Proficiencies, Skills and Certifications:

  • Educational background in Environmental related degree(s) and/or related fields.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a combined public and private sector in managing projects and professional staff.
  • Be an ambassador for SEI that engages in diversity and inclusion.
  • Be self-motivated to meet individual goals and maintain accountability in a team environment.
  • Be able to multi-task in a team environment.
  • Exercise initiative and independent judgement in the solution of work problems.
  • Be able to communicate effectively-verbal and written.
  • Must have excellent writing, communications, and relationship building skills.
